A "Little Red" Makeover

I've been working on updating my neglected little powder room (toilet closet) this week and in between the painting and putting up molding have been busy working on a few projects for the room.

I found this little telephone stand at Salvation Army a few months ago.  At the time, I didn't know what I would do with it, but thought for $9.99 it was too cute to pass up.

This week it hit me that this piece would be perfect in the powder room, so "Little Red" was born.

The original white paint had to be scraped off.  It had been applied to a varnished surface and peeled off pretty easily.  Next, I lightly sanded it.  Then used homemade chalk paint in white and then a couple layers of red. After that I distressed the entire piece by sanding, and using a mocha glaze.  I finished off with a natural color paste wax.

I wanted to do something special for the drawer so using Mod Podge I lined it with some leftover fabric I had.

The knob I found at Hobby Lobby for 50% off.  I added a little mocha glaze to age it.  I love the detail!

Here is the before and after one more time:

I'm really lovin' "Little Red" and can't wait to show you the final reveal.

Happy Saturday!

  5. For $9.99 I wouldn't have passed up that little table either and would have been happy with it white, but you have definitely taken it from pretty plain to pretty darn fantastic! Great work. I'm stopping by from Brenda's Cozy Little House. Hope your weekend is great. Tammy

  30. Gorgeous! I'm looking for a red like this and am wondering if you'd share the brand and name of the color so that I might find a paint chip. I have a dresser w/o drawers (installing shelves) that I'd love to do in a similar color.
